Birth Stories

Camille Margaret

I was blessed with a very healthy and uneventful pregnancy. I attribute that to good genes, prenatal yoga, and the occasional Five Guys burger. My due date was May 14th, but Camille wasn't interested. On Tuesday the 15th, I was fitted with a balloon that was to help start my dilation for the next day's induction. I arrived at the hospital already 3 ½ centimeters and was given pitocin at 8:15 am. Contractions came fast and hard. Much to my disappointment, I forgot all of the helpful things I had learned in yoga and relaxation classes.

At 9:30 I received the epidural which only took on my left side. Rather than have it reinserted, I was flipped to my right side to see if that would do the trick. It did except for a quarter sized hot spot that felt all of the pain. A little more medicine and I was completely numb. In fact, I was too numb to push when it was time. The nurse turned off my epidural for an hour before I was ready.

The ordeal with the pain meds left me a little sad. I had wanted to feel like I had some control over the sensations, but the medicine was just too strong. When the time finally came, I pushed for a half hour through eight contractions. Camille Margaret Maslyn was born at 1:26 pm weighing in at a whopping 9½ pounds and 22 inches long. Despite a few minor disappointments, I feel blessed to have such a healthy baby.

Thanks Leslie and Yoga Source for being such an important part of the amazing process.

I was new to Richmond when I took my first round of classes with Leslie and baby #1 (now twenty one months). I'm now almost 5 mos. pregnant with #2 and will sign-up soon. I loved being around other pregnant women and embracing our natural state. I also met some great friends in my neighborhood through the classes, and we really have a wonderful foundation to our friendship through experiencing the class together.
