Birth Stories

Elizabeth Chase

We are so excited to announce the birth of our baby girl Elizabeth Chase! She arrived on July 7th at 3:23 a.m. at 7 lbs 10 oz, 21 inches long!

On Friday, July 6th, I woke up at 5:30 a.m. to what I was pretty sure were contractions. We had a doctor's appointment scheduled for that day anyway. We went to the doctor's appointment at 9:30 a.m. and they sent us over to Labor and Delivery. We already called our doulas, Kathy and Mary Jo, so they were on their way to the hospital.

Once in Labor & Delivery, they put me on a monitor for 20 minutes and let me off for 40 minutes during each hour. I was able to walk around during the early stages of labor. I used the birth ball to get through each contraction, that was very relaxing. By 2 p.m. that afternoon, contractions were getting very intense and getting closer and closer together.

We were well on our way to the natural childbirth we were planning on. We determined that our baby girl's head was below my left hip so we had to get her to move in the right direction. Our doula and the nurse had great ideas for different positions for me to get in which helped her move. While we were waiting for the doctor to come check on us, I got in the bathtub. This was so relaxing! The bathtub had jets that eased the pain in my lower back. Around 8 p.m., Dr. Tate arrived and at this point I was 5-6 cm dilated.

I got back in the bathtub one more time and by midnight I was 10 cm dilated and it was time to start pushing! Dr. Tate came in and broke my water and things starting moving very quickly! After 3 1/2 hours of pushing, Chase finally arrived!

The whole childbirth experience was unbelievable! The yoga helped me so much with relaxation and concentration during the birthing. I hope everyone from the Saturday class is doing great and thank you so much for all your support! I could not have done it without our doulas, Kathy and Mary Jo, they were so supportive and comforting!

The first few weeks have been a wild ride and so unbelievable! We are having the best time with our little girl!

Take care!

I was new to Richmond when I took my first round of classes with Leslie and baby #1 (now twenty one months). I'm now almost 5 mos. pregnant with #2 and will sign-up soon. I loved being around other pregnant women and embracing our natural state. I also met some great friends in my neighborhood through the classes, and we really have a wonderful foundation to our friendship through experiencing the class together.
