Birth Stories

Emily Isabel

I'm happy to share the birth story of my daughter, Emily Isabel. She was born Tuesday, August 14 at 8:04 a.m. and was 6 lbs., 15 oz., and 19-3/4 inches long. She arrived by planned c-section because she was breech.

After a lot of thought and consideration, I decided the c-section was the best option for me. Once we scheduled the procedure, the anticipation started to build. We didn't know if we were having a boy or girl, so while having major surgery was a very scary thought, we had the excitement of finally finding out the gender of our baby. The day before Emily was born was a long one... We had to be at the hospital at 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning and as luck would have it, my alarm didn't go off. Luckily, I woke up at 5:00, and had to quickly take a shower and head out the door. Once we were at the hospital, things moved quickly - a million questions, IVs, etc. The doctor walked in at 7:15 and a few minutes later my husband and I were walking into the operating room. The actual procedure was fairly short and very surreal - being awake in the operating room was definitely a different experience. When the doctor said 'it's a girl', I could hardly believe it - it was truly the most amazing and memorable moment of my life. They dropped the curtain right away and I had the opportunity to hold Emily with my husband's help. They put me back together and got Emily cleaned up, and we were back in our room by 8:30. We spent the first several hours of Emily's life holding her and bonding with her. Now that we're home, I've recovered quickly and Emily is a very sweet baby who is growing quickly. While I never thought that my birth story would include a c-section, I realize that regardless of the journey, the destination is the same and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I really enjoyed and valued my time in prenatal yoga and always looked forward to Tuesday nights. I will definitely miss the sharing circle and the support and wisdom shared each week.

Sincerely,
Angie S.

I was new to Richmond when I took my first round of classes with Leslie and baby #1 (now twenty one months). I'm now almost 5 mos. pregnant with #2 and will sign-up soon. I loved being around other pregnant women and embracing our natural state. I also met some great friends in my neighborhood through the classes, and we really have a wonderful foundation to our friendship through experiencing the class together.
