Birth Stories
Logan Riley
Logan Riley has finally arrived! But man, did we both work for it! My contractions started around 7:30 Saturday night, but didn't start getting intense until around 10. I wasn't even sure it was the real thing until then, but when I was doubled over on the floor with each one and not able to fully relax in between, we called the midwife and started preparing the bedroom for the birth. I was only in hard labor for about 3 hours, and when I started pushing around 1 AM we really thought it'd be 1-2-3-baby out, since my daughter’s birth was so easy (I pushed her for 40 minutes). But Logan had a little trouble. I had to get out of the tub (which was sooooo nice and made the contractions much milder) and my midwife had me try pretty much every position in the book to get him to move. His heart rate even started dropping a few times, which was pretty scary, but my midwife kept calm, and just had me stop pushing for a few contractions to let him "regroup", and his heart rate would come right back up and we were back to business.
Finally, after 2 hours of the hardest pushing I could ever imagine, he was out! And face-up (that’s why it was so difficult)! And beautiful! And I feel like I've been hit by a truck. But I also feel incredibly powerful and amazing. Birthing at home was such a wonderful experience. It was so relaxing and comfortable, and I've been surrounded by family and friends the whole time. And to think if I had been at the hospital, I probably would have ended up with a c-section, when all we really needed was some patience and the right positions and to let the baby and I regain our strength every now and then. So here are his stats and a picture. Best of luck to everyone still waiting for their little miracles!

I was new to Richmond when I took my first round of classes with Leslie and baby #1 (now twenty one months). I'm now almost 5 mos. pregnant with #2 and will sign-up soon. I loved being around other pregnant women and embracing our natural state. I also met some great friends in my neighborhood through the classes, and we really have a wonderful foundation to our friendship through experiencing the class together.
