Birth Stories

Ryker

At my last class, September 26, I was one day past my "due date" but that didn't last long, Ryker was born on October 3rd and he is just perfect.

I had a completely natural labor and delivery, no pain meds and no epidural! Mary Callender was my Doula and she was just fantastic. My husband and I used a lot of the techniques that we learned from your Conscious Birthing class, we labored for 4 hours at home before going to the hospital. When we arrived I was almost 4cm dilated which is exactly where I wanted to be when I arrived at the hospital. I found the labor ball to be the most wonderful thing during labor and I would recommend it to all mothers. I cannot imagine laboring on my back for 12 hours. The thought just makes me hurt! I labored for 12 hours, and just under 2 hours of that was pushing. I was able to pull him out and place him on my chest, how beautiful. I felt so empowered after the birth that I did it without intervention. I truly believe that is why Ryker is so alert and a very mellow baby. He had minimal "pokes and prods", delayed vaccinations and no circumcision – He experienced very little pain while in the hospital and I think that is so helpful for a smooth transition home. Anyway, I'm now rambling :o) I'm just so proud!!

I just wanted to share my experience with OmMama. I found yoga to be so helpful to me during my pregnancy, it helped to balance me and the information I learned from the classes opened me up to a world I have never experienced. Had I not taken prenatal yoga during my pregnancy I truly believe I would have been part of the c-section statistics! More than anything Melissa and my Doula empowered me to change providers at 35 weeks because my doctor was NOT in support of my birth plan, he was pushing pitocin at 35 weeks! I switched to Dr. F and how happy I am that I did.

Thanks again! Hopefully you will see me again in the future. In the meantime, Ryker and I will be taking Itsy Bitsy yoga in a couple of weeks! :o)

I was new to Richmond when I took my first round of classes with Leslie and baby #1 (now twenty one months). I'm now almost 5 mos. pregnant with #2 and will sign-up soon. I loved being around other pregnant women and embracing our natural state. I also met some great friends in my neighborhood through the classes, and we really have a wonderful foundation to our friendship through experiencing the class together.
